It's no surprise that something as innovative as ROWE got its start at an innovative company, Best Buy Co., Inc. If you want to be the best, you've got to stay on top.
Just ask Best Buy.
A series of focus groups revealed that what employees wanted most from their leadership was TRUST. They wanted to be trusted to get their work done and to have a personal life at the same time.
Too much to ask?
Would it be possible for a culture based on face-time, chair-time, clock-time and control, to actually give employees the freedom to do whatever they wanted whenever they wanted – as long as the work got done?
One leader took a risk.
One team became the test pilot for the program that eventually became known as ROWE. Over a six-month period, more than 300 employees learned how to work against the grain and were given control of their time and their lives.
What happened after that?
The team became more efficient and productive, not to mention happier and healthier.
Today, almost 80% of Best Buy's corporate headquarters is in a Results-Only Work Environment. And the results are amazing
ROWE is clearly a business advantage.
